The next Call of Duty (from developer Treyarch) has officially been confirmed to be the Black Ops sequel that everybody just assumed it would be. You may not have guessed on the setting though.
Moving the game into the 'near future' is definitely a new one for the CoD franchise. How the gritty war game will play out with a backdrop of standing tanks, high-tech weaponry, robotic drone armies, and traveling on horseback is anyone's guess... wait a sec... one of these things is not like the other.
It probably would have sold buckets just sticking to the same old formula, even though the whole 'modern warfare' thing was getting a little stale. I've been thinking that the series desperately needed something new on the creative side since I played MW3 last year- maybe this is it?
We'll find out when Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 drops this November.
...oh, by the way, you can already pre-order it.
