3DS News From Nintendo World Show

Lots of new info came out of Nintendo's Nintendo World Show this past weekend as far as the 3DS is concerned. One of the biggest eye openers was that the battery life would suffer significantly when 3D mode is switched on.

Effective play time reduces from 5-8 hours, down to 3-5 hours. That's a pretty big hit, and although the graphics on the console look phenomenal without 3D- it's pretty much the hook of the system. It is a knock to have the main draw be such a power hog.

Launch lineup after the jump-

In other news from Japan, the launch lineup was announced for the Asian market and looks like this:
  • Super Street Fighter 4
  • Nintendogs + Cats
  • Winning Eleven
  • Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle
  • Ridge Racer 3D
  • Combat of Giant Dinosaur 3D
  • Puzzle Bobble 3D
  • Samaurai Warriors Chronicle
If you're not all that impressed, that's understandable- but consider this, there are a lot more games coming in 2011 (including Ocarina of Time) and don't forget that this is the Japanese launch we're talking about here. Some of what's yet to come this year includes:
  • Kid Icarus
  • Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater
  • Resident Evil Revelations
  • Pilot Wings
  • Dead or Alive Dimensions
  • Paper Mario
  • Mario Kart 3D
Sounds a little better eh? One of the coolest things barely shown (and hopefully won't be forgotten) was the Augment Reality game card system. The system will ship with some cards in the box (at least in Japan) and the effect, which uses the front facing camera, is truly awesome to see.

The details for the US and European markets will be announced at a special event on the 19th of this month. For you importers out there, the 3DS launches in Japan first- on the 25th of February.
