LEGO Rock Band free @ Old Navy

Yes, free as in free. Sort of. It will cost you sleep and twenty dollars American.

All you have to do is spend $20 on Black Friday and you get one. A fifty dollar game for twenty bucks. The way I figure it, you get some gifts for the Holidays and a game for yourself (or that could be a gift too), not bad.

Here's the drawback: only around the first hundred or so customers will get a copy and I hear from an inside source that wrist bands and a special line will be in your future if you decide to partake. That's not set in stone but it certainly sounds plausible. Oh, and get there early.

Like one in the morning early. Ugh-

I some additional Rock Band news, some of the tracks from LEGO RB will be exportable into other RB games. No real surprise there, but cool nonetheless.

The pitch of the sound they make will change depending on where the arrows are positioned. There are four types of Luminarrow: red, yellow, green and blue. Each type floats at a different speed and makes a distinctive musical tone. The four types of Luminarrow drift together to create beautiful melodies. Completely alter the direction of the arrows to change their sound dramatically.

Electroplankton Sun-Animalcule
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Sun-Animalcule plankton get their name from their tendency to emit light in a sphere around them. The plankton begin as eggs and gradually grow, emitting light and fascinating sounds throughout their entire life cycle. The sounds they make will change as they grow from infancy to maturity, growing very quickly until they disappear completely. Sun-Animalcule plankton only emerge in the morning, noon and evening. They lose strength as the night wears on; that’s when the crescent-shaped Falcato plankton take their place. The pitch of the plankton changes depending on where they grow.

Electroplankton Lumiloop
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Lumiloop plankton are curious, donut-shaped aquatic creatures. While stationary, they have the ability to spin at a very high rate of speed. As they spin, the Lumiloop emit unique sounds and a fascinating ring-shaped glow. Lumiloop plankton seem to always grow in clusters of five. They produce sounds at different pitches as they spin together, creating a beautiful harmony. This is called a pentatonic scale. Depending on where they live, Lumiloop plankton that produce several different sounds have been identified.

Electroplankton Marine-Crystals
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Resembling delicate snow crystals, Marine-Crystal plankton float elegantly on the surface of the water. The plankton get their name from their distinctive snowflake shape. They grow in clusters of 35 and line up in very orderly formations. When stimulated, Marine-Crystal plankton spin and produce vibrant sounds. While the plankton do grow in size if they are repeatedly tapped, they gradually return to their original size over time. They are born in four polygonal shapes: triangle, square, pentagon and hexagon. The ends of the crystalline protrusions also take on the same shapes. The tone of the sound they make will change depending on the shape of the Marine-Crystal plankton’s body.

Electroplankton Varvoice
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Varvoice plankton memorize the sound of human speech and repeat it over and over. They accomplish this amazing feat by oscillating the long flagellum that extends from their heads. By resonating the vibration with their water-droplet-shaped body, the plankton produce sounds that closely resemble the human voice. The body can expand and contract at will. By changing shape, they can easily manipulate the sound of the voice. Words that the Varvoice memorize and play back in reverse have a particularly strange ring to them. Researchers refer to this phenomenon as Varvoice inversion.

Lots of stuff this week. It's nice to see so much content for the somewhat lacking DSiware lately. Now if they would just put out some VC games on it, they'd really have a winner.

When I think of all the time I spent on Mario Kart, wow what a great game. Recommended whole-heartedly for anyone who's never played any of the MK games- is there such a person? -This is still the best game in the series...

Twenty bucks worth of pre-loads is pretty nice - Why Black Friday bundles though? Why not just say they're holiday bundles? Odd...

You know, it's so hard to find any info on the DS. It's such an obscure little console. I mean, nobody I know has even ever heard of it. Good of Nintendo to let us all know it's very bestest points. /sarcasm

The demos are loooong overdue but DSiware has to step it up. In the last few weeks there's been way more releases, and that's great, but the quality of those releases has been very suspect. I know this isn't meant to be the VC from the Wii- but it'd be a better service if it was. Just sayin'

Nintendo tops the sales charts

Start Transmission

Nintendo’s Wii and Nintendo DS systems claimed the top hardware sales positions for October, making them well-positioned to become one of the must-have holiday gifts for the fourth consecutive year. U.S. shoppers snapped up nearly 507,000 Wii systems in October, bringing lifetime sales to more than 22 million, according to the independent NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. Wii sales spiked more than 9.5 percent over September, a remarkable result, considering that September was a five-week reporting month for NPD, while October included just four weeks. Consumers were attracted by top software like Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus, as well as the system’s new suggested retail price of $199.99.
Nintendo’s hand-helds, Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DS Lite, combined to sell more than 457,000 units, and placed second in overall video game hardware sales. The Nintendo DS franchise has sold through nearly 34 million units in the United States since its 2004 launch and is poised to surpass the all-time single-year U.S. hardware sales record, set in 2008 by the Wii console, with more than 10 million units sold.
“Nintendo’s year-to-date share of total game sales and total industry revenues are up over the same period last year,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “We are very appreciative of the continued, strong consumer response to both of our systems as we head into the holidays, and are excited to bring to them our key games, like New Super Mario Bros Wii, which launches this Sunday, and The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, which launches Dec. 7.”
Four games published for Nintendo systems finished in the top 10 best-sellers of October in the United States. These include Wii Fit Plus at No. 5 with nearly 232,000 sold, Wii Fit Plus (with the Wii Balance Board accessory) at No. 6 with more than 209,000 sold, Wii Sports Resort with two Wii MotionPlus accessories at No. 8 with nearly 179,000 sold and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days for Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi at No. 10 with more than 169,000 sold.
Along with Wii Sports Resort, which launched in July, games such as Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Play, Pokémon Platinum Version and Mario Kart DS currently sit in the top 10 best-sellers for all of 2009.

A little bit surprising considering that the Wii has really slowed dow in sales. Whats not surprising at all is the continued success of the DS line. The thing's a  juggernaut and cannot be beat for sheer entertainment and variety of software. It's a shame that the PSP Go was such a massive failure, it would have been good to see some competition in the mobile market. Now we'll have to wait and see what happens with the rumored next-gen PSP and DS.

Mobile TV just got overpriced and useless!

Well, not completely useless as the FLO TV handheld does allow you to watch your favorite 'stories' just about anywhere. This might sound cool but as Engadget reports, the thing costs a brutal $250 and an $8 per month fee to receive signals! With a three year contract! That's really an outrageous pricing system for something that only does one thing- and it's not even something all that special in this day and age. Reminds me a little of the Peek (the device that allows you to check your email... and nothing else).

At least it looks cool.

Natal priced and dated?

Big story going around today is that the much anticipated Project Natal camera and motion detection system for the Xbox 360 from Microsoft has had it's deets leaked. Hate when that happens...

From the reports, it looks as though Natal (still officially unnamed) will bust out in one year, November 2010, and will cost $80 or less. Possibly as low as $50.00- it will also launch with 14 games behind it. I assume one of those has to be Halo: Reach.

MS is really treating this as a console launch, which is something I wasn't expecting since I've long held the thought that the 360 (as welll as the PS3) won't see anywhere near the 10 year estimates for this console cycle. Makes you wonder.

Also, at those prices (might one be a bundle?) this is pretty much a must buy for any 360 owner looking for a new experience, even someone like me who hates motion controls.

Of course this is all rumor at this point. *ahem*

Did you guys know that Halo Waypoint launched on Xbox Live?

A lot of people don't for some reason.

If you're a Halo fan you definately want to check it out because you'll most likely get a bunch of goodies in the form of Avatar Awards the second you log on. Here's a list of the bonuses that you'll be get just for playing and/or beating Halo themed games-

Achievement Title

Achievement Awardable
Tourist
Accessed and downloaded the city map to your VISR.
ODST Black T-shirt
Dark Times
Killed 5 enemies while using VISR mode.
ODST hoodie
Campaign Complete: Normal

ODST Full Body Armor

ODST Dare Helmet (Female)
Recon Helmet (Male)

There's a lot more stuff too for beating H3 and Halo Wars, all for nothin' too.

Modern Warfare 2 dropped today, You get it?

Of course there are some people who are boycotting the game, that's the case for any big release (those non-conformist-conformists, they're wacky), but some are not buying the game for different reasons. Be it no dedicated servers for online play (not a very good reason in my book), or because of the harsh depictiions of real world violence-

What do you guys think? Are you picking the game up or not? And why? The best emails will get posted here and the bestest one (chosen by me and based on nothing) will win a swell prize.
