Shadow Complex on sale now!

This week only you can pick up shadow Complex on Xbox LIVE for 33% off the list price, which makes it a low low 800 MSP.

If you haven't gotten this game by now- you no longer hae any excuse. Forget about downloadable GOTY- Complex is a legit contender for game of the year.

A very special PSN holiday update...

A very nice PSN update bashes us all to pieces this week and reminds us to spend lots and lots of PSN dolla's over the Christmas break this week.

Wing Commander IV (PSOne classic) is now available as well as the MGS Peace Walker demo. A bunch of games are on sale too so check it out after the you know what.

Sack, sack, sack...

The PSN has a bunch of new Little Big Planet content up for your mandatory infusion of sack.

There are some new LBP avatars for your perusal as well as the Pirates of the Caribbean level pack that intro's the 'water' gameplay element that went up last week. Oh, and just a little tip: LBP is a great game in either flavor (PS3 or PSP). Makes a good solid last second gift if you're in need. But you finished all of your Christmas shopping already... right?

Check out all the sacky details after the break.

Have nothing to do on Christmas Day?

Here are some helpful tips from your good friends at Microsoft.

You’ve wrapped your gifts, put the finishing touches on decorations, and created your version of frosty the snowman in the front yard. Whether you’re spending the Holidays with your (crazy?) extended family, close friends, or just that special someone this year, Xbox LIVE has lots to keep you entertained (and sane) at home during the Holidays. So grab a blanket, a hot cup of cider, and let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

The Gift of Holiday Knowledge
There’s always that one know-it-all in every family, so challenge Aunt Connie or Cousin Johnny to a special Holiday trivia showdown. Tune into a special “1 vs 100 Live” Holiday episode on December 26 at 6:00 pm PT which will feature Holiday-themed trivia, a decked out set, and laughs with Chris Cashman. Didn’t get an Xbox LIVE Gold membership in your stocking this year? No problem. From December 24, 9:00 am PT – December 28, 9:00 am PT, Xbox LIVE Silver members in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France and Germany can enjoy the “1 vs 100” premium entertainment experience reserved exclusively for Gold members. If you enjoy making your Avatar bust a move, you can also cast a vote for your favorite dance in the “1 vs 100” Dance Contest (www.avatardancecontest.com) from now until December 26. The winner will be notified on January 4, and have their moves immortalized as an Avatar dance in “1 vs 100.” And, to ring in 2010, tune into another special “1 vs 100 Live” episode on January 1 at 7:00 pm PT, which will test your knowledge of the New Year.

The Gift of Rocking Out
Sick of caroling? Do the jingle bell rock! The Gift of Fame

With so much entertainment to keep your Holiday merry and bright, remember to dress your Avatar to the nines (or in an ugly Holiday sweater) and check out Major Nelson on Twitter from now until December 31 as he unveils daily deals that will be sure to bring you cheer.

Gamestop is returning your money! No really...

If you're looking for a little extra dough to spend on yourself this holiday season, you might want to check out this website.

What you'll find is a form to fill out that will get you back any unused deposits that you might have left on games that you neglected to pick up in the form of a printable giftcard. The idea is that Gamestop is supposed to call you (Ms. Computer-voice that is) to let you know that you have these unused deposits and that you should head over to the site linked above.

With that said, I would encourage anyone who has preordered regularly at Gamestop to try their luck with the form even if you didn't get a phone call. In my own experience, I had to use a cell phone number that I don't have any more to get my cash back- it was a great surprise too- turned out to be $20.00!

You can read the whole story at Kotaku. Thanks for the twenty guys!

Celebrity & Entertainment gift guide is out -

- And it's on shelves right now.

Highlighted in the Spark this month is my take on the PSP Go that I've been promising everyone- it's in there
with my top five giftables for this Holiday season. You'll have to pick up the magazine to see where it ranks.

Uncharted 2 Among Thieves title update

Interested in some 'clan tags'? No? Well too bad because that's what has decended onto Uncharted land on this fine day. That and a bunch of other stuff.

Nothing major though so don't get too excited- although decreased loading time is always nice.

PSN Update -- 'Hmmm, not that much' edition

Not a lot at all, we've got Final Fantasy VIII, the Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker demo, and that Gran Turismo time trial thing.

Not much else. I'll definately get the Peace Walker demo but I was never all that into FFVIII.

Playstation Home gets an infusion of good ideas...

Well, only one good idea so far actually. And it has an odd name.

MMO style games to play with your Home-y. Very cool- The first offering is a hover-tank blaster/racing thing called Sodium One. One issue I have though, is that you're charged for playing past the first five levels. I'd rather pay a fee per year (a la LIVE) than be nickel and dimed for vehicle upgrades and new levels.

Official Scuttle after the break.

New Crackdown 2 stuff!

Huzzah!

You saw it first at the SPIKE Video Game Awards on Dec. 12, now relive the explosive moments from the first official “Crackdown 2” gameplay trailer. Fans eager for the ultimate adrenaline rush will find their home in “Crackdown 2,” releasing exclusively on Xbox 360 in 2010.

In the trailer, Pacific City’s new generation of Agents takes to the streets with obliterating force. In an explosive ballet of destruction, Agents work in tandem to bring down the Freaks and any others who threaten Pacific City by any means possible. Both seasoned and newer Agents should be on the lookout for important details hidden in the footage to get better prepared for the upcoming rumble.

“Crackdown 2,” the sequel to 2007’s action blockbuster, will redefine multiplayer action with its 4-player co-op and 16-player competitive multiplayer combat over an immense playground of vertigo-inducing verticality: Pacific City.

Been out of commission or never experienced the first “Crackdown”? Don’t fret. Head on over to Xbox LIVE and download “Crackdown” via Games on Demand for only 1,600 Microsoft Points. The “Getting Busy” Game Add-on for “Crackdown” is also available for 400 Microsoft Points.

Your Agent is back online. Get to work.

I love this series, glad it's continuing. It would have been all too easy to have written it off completely since it came with the Halo 3 demo.

Halo Reach official trailer

It's not really much in the way of gameplay (even though it's all 'in engine'), but for what it is, it looks very, very good- check it out after the jump.

Beatles Rock Band is fab at the sales totals

The Beatles rock Band haas topped $1Million in sales, a phenominal figure (IMO) as the game is a bit niche even though the Beatles are still extremely popular with lots and lots of people.

Anyway, MTV games is pretty pleased with it's performance and I guess that's a good thing for all as it probably means that the DLC will continue-a-flowin'- in fact, Rubber Soul should be out relatively soon which should make everybody happy. I personally enjoyed the hell out of this game, didn't buy any of the downloadables yet but I probably will at some point.

Multi-touch is gonna be history real fast...

The folks at MIT have cooked up an advance in LCD technology so fantastic that they made a promotional video for it!

Watch it here on Gizmodo

At about 4:40 in, it really begins to shine, it (as Giz points out) does seem like Natal might be able to do some of this stuff (pleasepleaseplease), but that light sourcing stuff is amazing. I hope somebody picks up on this and actually does something with it.

MAG INFO for YOU (and the box art too)

Start Transmission

We’ve been exceedingly grateful to those of you who participated in our MAG beta tests over the last several months and couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out.
Naturally, with the end of our beta cycle, comes the countdown to our final release on January 26, and what better way to start that countdown than to reveal the final, “official” box art that you’ll find in the United States and Canada. Have a gander!
MAG Packfront Final!
Pretty sweet isn’t it? Yeah, we like it too.
Now that you know what to look for in the future, let’s go back to the past for a moment and talk about some interesting information we gathered over the last month.
  • More than 42,000 matches were played over the course of the full public beta (August 17 – December 5).
  • During October’s beta period alone nearly 534,000+ miles were traveled in-game by MAG players each week.
  • During the final month of the Beta 4 and 4.5 periods (November 9 – December 5):
    • Of the more than 65,000 players that logged on, 17,000 of them qualified for Squad Leader, 3500 people qualified for Platoon Leader, 1100 folks made it all the way to OIC, and 206 dedicated warriors made it all the way to the level 60 experience cap.
    • Nearly 18 million kills were made and an excess of 700 million shots were fired.
    • The Top 3 most played maps all belonged to the Sabotage mode. They were, in order, Syr Darya Uplink, Darien Network, and Copper Hills Relay.
  • You can check out some of our dedicated Beta tester all-stars over on the Official MAG Blog

Like the box art? I do, very cool. Not very intersted in the game itself though. Anyone who reads ths site regularly knows that I really don't like Multi very much, and MAG is all multi. Meh...

Happy Home-y Holidays!

People still use Home? Anyway, Home is getting a holiday season facelift along with some new Motorstorm and Uncharted content. Honestly though, this stuff could have been up for months- I used Home once when it was beta'd and that was it. So it's all new to me!

Start Transmission

Happy holidays Home-people!
We here on the PlayStation Home team are pleased to announce that we are kicking off the holiday season in a big way come this Thursday, December 10th. We have quite a few surprises lined up for you, and I don’t want to give away too much too soon, but it’s safe to say that this year’s festivities will run for the remainder of the month and will include some very surprising developments.
That is, of course, assuming the entire community works together to solve the puzzles (and collect the rewards) associated with the huge Festive Tree, coming to Central Plaza this week. Peep the picture below (smuggled out of the developers’ offices by yours truly) for a sneak peek of what’s in store for you. And make sure you log in every day throughout the holiday season to solve puzzles, unlock rewards, and help transform PlayStation Home into the premier party destination for the New Year.
PlayStation Home Holiday Tree
In other holiday-related news: We are releasing a ton of additional festive items that will help you celebrate the holidays properly in PlayStation Home, no matter what your personal style may be. Included in this new batch of items is a free menorah, for all of our community members that want to celebrate Chanukah in-world (free items for those of you who want to celebrate Christmas, Xmas, Kwanzaa, and even that holiday “for the rest of us” are currently available in the Mall). You’ll also find the Dead Space 2 Miner outfit (for guys and gals) in the Costumes store, along with a heap of other costumes bundled at prices that simply can’t be beat.
MotorStorm fanatics will find yet another addition to their collection awaiting them in the Estates store this week. The MotorStorm: Pacific Rift personal space is a perfect retreat for you and your friends after a day (or night) or racing around the 16 destructible tracks that make up the off-road mayhem of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. Show the world that you are a true road warrior by customizing this unique beachfront locale with the MotorStorm-themed virtual items available in the Furniture store, and then invite your friends over to launch into multiplayer matches of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. Check out this hot new personal space in the pics below.

This Friday, December 11th, we will be throwing a scavenger hunt event to celebrate the release of Hudson Entertainment’s Diner Dash. Those of you that log in between the hours of 12:00pm and 5:00pm PST (3:00pm and 8:00pm EST) will find segments of a voucher code scattered throughout PlayStation Home. The first 50 users that assemble and redeem the code will receive one free download of Diner Dash on the PlayStation Network. So if you’re reading this now, it’s time you get into PlayStation Home and start searching high and low. These codes are guaranteed to go fast!
Last but certainly not least, our development team has managed to resolve the Z(7,-104) error that a small number of users had been encountering when logging in to PlayStation Home. In order to resolve this problem we will be rolling back the last reward item received on all affected accounts. This will fix will be deployed during this week’s regularly scheduled downtime (please note that due to the extra work required this week, the maintenance period will be extended).
Once this rollback is complete, users previously affected will once again be able to log into PlayStation Home with all of their other rewards and items intact. Of those previously affected, a very small number of users may find that their rewards have been rolled back further than the previous item in order to permanently fix this issue. This was done on a case-by-case basis, to ensure that all of you could get back into Home.
As always, stay tuned to this blog for more info about the season’s upcoming content and events (including another chance to win the UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves Fortune Hunter Edition. There’s so much cool stuff set to release over the coming weeks and months that we are sure you will keep coming Home time and time again.

Playstation Firmware Update 3.15 is now available-

Yes it's still annoying. I hate these things, it's always when I want to play something! Updateupdateupdate-

Anyway, here's the official word on what to expect when it finishes and you can get back to your game.

Start Transmission

Hi everyone, PlayStation 3 (PS3) will receive its next system software update shortly – v. 3.15. This is an optional update, and it enables existing PS3 owners who purchase a new PS3 system (perhaps as a second unit for the household) to transfer their content from their current PS3 to the new system. Content such as games, game save data, and videos downloaded from PlayStation Network can be transferred to the new PS3 system and deleted from the current PS3 system. Other content, including personal media files (photos, music, videos), can be copied onto the new PS3 and remain on the current PS3 system.
Here’s a quick primer on how the Data Transfer Utility works.
Data Transfer Utility
  1. Turn both the current PS3 (A) and new PS3 (B) on and connect them with a LAN cable; PS3 (A) should be connected to the TV. Please note, firmware (v3.15) must be installed on both systems.
  2. On the XMB of PS3 (A), scroll to the Settings category and select [System Settings] and then [Data Transfer Utility]
  3. Follow the instructions on-screen and transfer data
  4. After transferring the data, follow the instructions on-screen, and then connect PS3 (B) to the TV to view the XMB
  5. If content that was downloaded from PlayStation Store was transferred as part of this operation, you must activate PS3 (B) before you can use the data. Log in to the PS3 system as the user who owns the content, and then select (PlayStation Network) > (Account Management) > (System Activation) to activate the system.
More details on Data Transfer Utility will be available here once the firmware update is live.
minis
The 3.15 update also enables “minis” to be played on a PS3 system. As we’ve reported here before, “minis” launched on PlayStation Network this fall in conjunction with the launch of PSPgo. These bite-sized games offer a more casual experience and are ideal for shorter gameplay sessions. Now PS3 owners will be able to play “minis,” and those who own both a PS3 and PSP system will be able to play on either platform. “minis” for the PS3 system will be available for download on PlayStation Store in the coming weeks. If you’ve purchased any “minis” already for your PSP and the title becomes available for PS3, you’ll simply need to download the title to your PS3.
As always, we look forward to your feedback.

Stop Transmission

The data transfer is a nice touch. Long overdue but a nice touch nonetheless. Playing the mini's on a PS3 is a great idea- I have yet to get one but this is sure to bump sales a bit, and maybe get more developers to hop on board. Nice job with that one Sony.

Forza 3 moves 1 million disc's- now how about some more cars?

For a fee of course...

‘Tis the season… to drive some of next year’s dream cars in this generation’s highest-rated racing game, only on Xbox 360. It looks like MS made the right choice to go with Forza over Project Gotham for it's premier racing franchise. Gotham was great but Forza 3 is amazing.

Nice touch with the Holiday Car Pack too. And all kidding about microtransactions aside, that's a lot of extra cars for 400 points. Though, selling them seperately would have been a nice touch- if you only wanted, say, that Aston Martin... *cough*cough*

And now a word about a game you're probably going to get anyway:

Start Transmission

One of the year’s biggest adventures is fired up and heading down the tracks. Today’s launch of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks for the hand-held Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi video game systems marks a fun new chapter in the historic franchise. For the first time, heroic Link teams with Princess Zelda, who accompanies him on an original quest to save Hyrule from ruin. This unforgettable saga has Link navigating perilous dungeons and commanding a customizable train. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks features challenging puzzles, wide-ranging exploration and a deep storyline.
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks builds upon the dynamic touch-screen control interface established in 2007’s The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, making it easier for players to perform advanced maneuvers and guide Link through an engaging series of adventures and challenges. An active participant throughout the entire game, Princess Zelda can take control of powerful Phantom characters to help Link make his way through obstacle-filled dungeons. New items include the Whirlwind and the Spirit Flute, which allows players to perform music that has magical effects on objects and events in the game by blowing into the built-in microphone of the Nintendo DS or Nintendo DSi.
While controlling Link’s customizable train, players can take on special missions in which he transports people and valuable cargo across the game world. The train offers players the opportunity to explore the world of Hyrule, taking more challenging routes to reach new areas as they acquire new parts and equipment.
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks includes a new head-to-head multiplayer mode that lets up to four players compete via a local wireless connection with one game card. In this mode, players explore six unique areas in search of valuable Force Gems. Traversing these areas and attempting to possess the most Force Gems at the end of each session, players must also avoid patrolling Phantoms, while setting off traps and using hidden abilities to foil their opponents.
“During the holidays, people are striving to find entertainment options that offer hours of fun, and The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks delivers,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “For more than 20 years, audiences have been captivated by the storyline and sense of exploration offered by these beloved games. The plot twists and seamless controls of this latest installment will engage existing fans of The Legend of Zelda series while introducing new players to the series’ magic.”
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is the 15th game in this internationally renowned series. Since its inception in 1986, more than 59 million games in The Legend of Zelda series have been sold worldwide.

Hooray, hooray, hooray for Rayman! More like this Nintendo. I'm definately not the only one calling for it, but if you put some Virtual Console type stuff on the DSi- the sales would blast through the roof.

I know I'd buy them. If Alpha 2 was on there I'd buy it right now-

PSP Go takes a beating from Travellers Tale's Boss

Read the piece on Joystiq

Excellent points. I'm very happy that I didn't sell my PSP 3000 personally- and I'm very close to selling my Go.

I was in love with the thing when I bought it and I still am, but the pricing structure is just flat broken. I had always thought that the game downloads would be at a discount over UMD's but they're exactly the same. If that's the case, then I'd rather just buy the disc's and take advantage of all the holiday sales.

Ain't no buy one get one half off on the PSN.

December's Qore is up on the PSN

The December Episode of Qore features no fear of heights, a fearsome knight, fighting Nazis at night, and part two of our visit with Industrial Light…and Magic.

What do aliens, Nikola Tesla and the Bermuda Triangle have in common? They’re all tied together in Capcom’s Dark Void. We’ve got an in-depth preview of the story, weapons, and world of this vertigo-inducing game that literally takes the third-person shooter to new heights!
From Japan, the land of the RPG, comes the latest epic title from Dark Cloud developer Level-5 Inc., White Knight Chronicles. Qore examines the combat system, storyline and online components that are sure to impress when the game hits the US early next year.
The story of an Irish racecar driver who gets caught up in the resistance movement in Nazi-occupied Paris sounds unbelievable, but EA’s The Saboteur is based upon a historical figure. Veronica Belmont talks with the developer about the havoc you’ll be able to wreak as you take on the German forces behind enemy lines.
Last month, we visited Industrial Light & Magic’s Presidio campus to see their movie making magic firsthand. In part two of this feature, Audrey Cleo gets to demo some very cool digital cinema technology that’s produced some of the most eye-popping special effects of 2009.
We hope you enjoyed our coverage of ModNation Racers in November’s Episode 18, because now it’s your turn to drive! Every current Qore subscriber on or before December 15 will receive a voucher code to access the ModNation Racers Beta Test. The voucher will be sent to the e-mail address tied to your PSN ID. Check the ModNation Racers website for the official Beta Test start time. Enjoy!
This episode also includes an exclusive White Knight Chronicles PS3 theme to go along with this month’s lead feature, and another theme based on a classic PS2 title, The Mark of Kri, for subscribers as well as single-episode purchasers. So check out this episode’s download center.
